A lot of these companies, whether it’s Disney or Twitter, they are built with a certain promise. They are built with an complicit understanding with either the audience or the user.
And then when they get big enough and powerful enough, they change their mind. “Yeah, not gonna do that anymore, and what are you gonna do about it?” That’s the attitude. Certainly, is the attitude of the social media platforms. If you look 10 years ago, they were all Facebook and Twitter, all about, “Yeah, it’s the open internet, man! Free speech, man.” Not anymore. Now it’s “How dare you say that that man is a man! Appalling. Not allowed to say that.”
