What Does Dorsey’s Exit at Twitter Mean for Free Speech?

CLAY: Twitter. Jack Dorsey has been the CEO for a long time. Jack Dorsey is no great friend of conservatives or people who just embrace freedom of speech or freedom of debate, but he’s better than a lot of people in Big Tech have been. He has now been replaced. He decided to resign this morning, and he is being replaced by a man — and I may mispronounce his name because I don’t know him; I’m not familiar with him — named Parag Agrawal.

In 2010, Parag Agrawal tweeted as follow: “If they’re not gonna make a distinction between Muslims and extremists, then why should I distinguish between white people and racists?” Do you feel like freedom of speech is going to be better at Twitter without Jack Dorsey, given this new guy who is coming in to take over just based on those tweets alone?

It’s gonna get ugly. And, frankly, the whole “build your new tech,” “build your whole internet,” I feel like that’s gonna have to happen before all is said and done, Buck. I think you and I are gonna end up getting banned on Twitter and a lot of other people are.

BUCK: Well, see, this is the thing. It’s hard to imagine, but there are more left-wing woke people — substantially more — in Silicon Valley, not even just as a general proposition, who could be running places like Facebook and Twitter. Mark Zuckerberg is a Democrat. I don’t know if Mark Zuckerberg is a super-left woke Democrat, right?

Now we’re starting to break down the levels of leftism and Marxism and who’s where on the Democrat spectrum, and if you have somebody who is truly woke as a CEO, Clay, you could have a total clampdown on speech. It won’t be everything, but it will be things like questioning Fauci, anything about January 6th they don’t like — and this is pernicious.

It’s a very real concern. They did it before to help Biden win the last election with the suppression of the Hunter Biden laptop. We all know it. And now, Clay, your point about building our own internet, they kind of sneered at us on the right. But Rumble, Locals, there are some serious, serious folks — you and I know them — who have come together building not even true conservative platforms, even. Free speech platforms, which that’s where we are now. The left is the enemy of free speech in this country. That’s been very clear for a while.
