Duffy stressed taking billions Congress allotted — plus funds saved through efficiency by his department — to modernize a severely antiquated system when addressing Clay and Buck’s air travel concerns. He also noted steps such as more detailed communication between pilots to passengers to explain necessary delays as a way to relieve travelers’ frustrations. Duffy was able to use Buck’s tarmac delay this week as an example — which he had looked into — to illustrate why passengers couldn’t exit that plane. Duffy also addressed air traffic controller shortages.
