BUCK: We have, as you know, been discussing this week the NSA spying scandal — the allegations of spying on Tucker Carlson — and this was something that Rush was on back in August of 2013, in fact. Here’s what he had to say about why we should all be concerned what’s going on with the NSA and possible abuse.
RUSH: Folks, the excesses here are… It’s worse than anybody thought, what the NSA has been doing, spying and information gathering on American citizens, monitoring phone calls. It’s almost too massive to describe in ways that are understandable. There are multiple stories in the Washington Post on this NSA blockbuster that suggest this is not a random act of journalism.
There’s a column by Eugene Robinson. There’s a couple of other stories. They have the facts. They’re quoting Obama to demonstrate a significant contradiction all on the same day. You know, Obama has told people, “Your phone calls are not being listened to; nobody cares.”
It’s the exact opposite. Everybody’s phone calls are being monitored! This is “1984.” This is really Orwellian, what is happening with this. Now, the Washington Post is emptying out every last barrel of ink, exposing a president running roughshod over the Constitution and lying about it via the NSA spying scandal.
BUCK: Clay, it’s remarkable how much the media’s willing to weigh in on the NSA and the intrusions on liberty. “Who’s the president?” is the first question they always have to ask, right?
CLAY: Yeah. It’s super unfortunate, right, Buck? Because ultimately this should be a major deal no matter who the person being spied on is and no matter who the president is.
