Is Carville Right About What’s Motivating Voters?

CLAY: James Carville got Bill Clinton elected in 1992 with the phrase “It’s the economy, stupid.” He was asked about the response that conservatives have to liberals associated with abortion. I thought this… By the way, his accent is also perfect, Ragin’ Cajun. He’s actually somewhat sane in the Democrat Party. Listen to him talk about the way that he thinks Democrats are talking in general about larger issues, but here’s an abortion answer.

CLAY: I saw that line, which I think is accurate because they’re so out of touch with the general American population. But, yes, the thing that is interesting — we’ll be talking with Ann about this in a moment, but the thing that is interesting — about the abortion debate in general is when you drill down and ask people about specifics, there’s no way that it’s two-to-one in favor of Roe v. Wade.
