Herschel Walker Wants to Win Without a Runoff

CLAY: We head now down to the great state of Georgia, which I like, even if Stacey Abrams thinks it’s the worst in the nation. And we’re going to talk with our guy, Herschel Walker, who is preparing — in addition for the election on Tuesday — for one of the biggest college football games in SEC football history. Herschel, you’re going to be in Athens. I’m going to be in Athens as well. Georgia-Tennessee, let’s make Buck’s head explode. What happens in the battle between, honestly, two number ones. Georgia is number one in the AP; Tennessee’s number one in the College Football Playoff. How do you see it shaking out?

WALKER: Well, it’s going to be an incredible game. I think Tennessee have a very, very good program. They’ve been coming up in the ranks, and Georgia, everyone knows they got a good program. So we are glad we got them in Athens, Georgia, ‘cause they got to come to Athens. And I want the fans there at Georgia to make sure it’s tough for them to hit a snap count because it’s going to be a good game. I think everyone in the nation is gonna be looking at this game because this is going to determine who can be number one and who may go into the SEC, because normally the SEC champions can’t beat the National Champions. So that’s what we’re going to look for.

CLAY: Now, you’ve got a rally in Athens for people who are going to be either attending this game or just coming in for what should be a big party. And that rally — let me make sure that I get this right — is going to be taking place starting, I believe, at 10 a.m., at the Classic Center there in Athens. A bunch of different people are going to be speaking. And what are you seeing on the ground? As it gets closer and closer to Election Day, you have pulled ahead in the polls. Are you feeling that momentum?

WALKER: Well, we’re feeling the momentum, but I’ve told my campaign group we’ve got to continue the campaign like we’re 5 to 10 points down. Right now, we want the Georgia people to know that we’re going to be fighting for them. We want them to know that we stand a big contrast between Senator Warnock and myself. Where I want to lower your taxes, he wants to raise your taxes. I want to secure the border. He don’t want to secure the border. I also want to get men out of women’s sports.

He’ll continue to vote for men in women’s sports. I also want to get this economy under control. They seem to not care and continue to spend money. So I want people to know that there’s a big contrast between the two of us, and so we’re going to continue to get out there and campaign, so I’m gonna continue to tell people to go to TeamHerschel.com, because we got to win this seat back by the great people of Georgia. We don’t want it to be a runoff. We want to win it straight out and let them know that we came here to fight for the great state of Georgia.

BUCK: Hey, Herschel, it’s Buck. You know, I’m sure you saw some of the Biden speech from earlier this week. It’s pretty amazing. You know, Clay and I follow politics every day and have for many years. It was shocking to see a president speak right before a midterm where he didn’t address issues. You just laid out a bunch of issues and what you want to accomplish in the Senate. Biden didn’t address any of that and he just talked about “threats to democracy” and “political violence.” What do you make of this? Like, are they just incapable of engaging on the issues?

WALKER: Well, that’s what they’ve been doing this whole time, not just President Biden, but this whole left. They’re not talking about the issues. They want to talk about everything else except the issues. This is what they’ve caused in less than two years. We see right now that we’ve got high inflation. We see all the crime in the streets, got this open border. And he’s saying the biggest threat to democracy is him being in a White House. The biggest threat to democracy is he and Senator Warnock, what they’ve done to our economy.

The biggest threat to democracy is how they let criminals be more important than our police departments. Well, we can’t do that. So they’re the biggest threat. But they continue to sort of try to scare people, and I want people to wake up. We got to get this thing right. We cannot give them six years after they’ve really shown us that they’ve destroyed everything in two. We can’t give them six more years to do what they’ve done to this country and to this state.

CLAY: You’ve been attacked, I bet, unlike any part of your life, Herschel, but it seems like you’ve come through on the other side. And people in Georgia have overwhelmingly said, “This is because people are terrified of Joe Biden and Warnock losing power, so they’re coming after Herschel Walker with everything they’ve got.” Do you feel a little bit like you just went through the line of scrimmage, you got hit by everybody on every side, and now you’re in the open field running that they weren’t able to tackle you and now you’re out on your own?

WALKER: Well, you know, it’s funny because what you’re saying, they’ve spent $100 million already against me. And yet, like you say, I’m still there, I’m still standing, which means that this seat is much bigger than Herschel Walker. And I don’t think they realize they came after the wrong Georgian here. I’m a fighter. I’ve always been a fighter. I’ve always got into the fight and I come out as on the top. Right now, the Georgian people are hurting because of Senator Warnock and Joe Biden. So they can talk about me and call me names. They can lie much they want to lie. One thing about me is I’ve been very transparent about my life.

Senator Warnock hasn’t. He’s tried to hide behind sealed documents in his court case. He’s trying to hide behind what he’s done to the kids and everything at that camp. Well, we don’t want to talk about those things. What we want to talk about what he’s done as a politician. As a politician, he got a failing grade. That grade is F, and Biden got an F as well. Senator Warnock has voted with him 96% of the time. That’s the reason we’re in the problem we are right now, because he doesn’t seem to know what he’s doing. And yet he said he says Herschel’s not ready? I hope everyone saw in that debate. They saw who was ready to be the senator for Georgia and that was Herschel Walker.

CLAY: Herschel, Vince Dooley died recently — for those people who don’t know, legendary Georgia football coach. One of the last things he did was record an advertisement for you in your Senate race. What did Vince Dooley mean to you? What did he mean to the state of Georgia? What kind of person was he?

WALKER: Coach Dooley was an incredible man. He was a leader, and that’s one of the reasons that I’m going to run for this all the way I’m running, because he brought up a lot of great leaders, Coach Dooley. You know, he was a big part of so many people’s lives, and I must say this: If it wasn’t for Coach Dooley, there may have never been a Herschel Walker, ‘cause Coach Dooley and Miss. Dooley, they were family, and his whole family are family of mine. I want to continue to send a proud Miss. Dooley and the Dooley family because they were incredible people.

Not just to the university, but to the state of Georgia, to this country. You know, Coach Dooley was one of the men that talked about the Title IX, the Title IX that is going on right now that the left is trying to destroy by putting men and women sports — which, Senator Warnock voted for that — but that’s not what Title IX was about. But they want to change that as well. But Coach Dooley was an incredible man who I’m going to miss him, and I will say that God got him a great football coach now in heaven.

BUCK: Herschel Walker, everybody. Herschel, it is so critical that everyone gets out in these last couple of days and obviously shows up big on Election Day. Any final thoughts for them or any instructions? You know, we had special instructions from a Senate candidate in Alaska yesterday that were very detailed. I mean, anything you want to tell folks?

WALKER: Well, what I like to tell people is anyone has any doubt about taking a non-politician like myself, I tell you to think of the politicians like Joe Biden and Senator Warnock who’ve done to this country in two short years what they’ve done by giving us this open border, these high taxes, these crime in the street. This is on their watch. I can promise you I’m going to get out and I’m going to fight for the great state of Georgia. I’m going to do what’s right by the great state of Georgia. I’m going to do what’s right by the people — and it’s not about me, it’s about us.

And we’re going to get that together. We’re not a racist country or how Senator Warnock want to put us. We’re a country of good people. We can get things done and we can get it done together. I want people to go to TeamHerschel.com. If you can volunteer your time, if you can call on phones, if you contribute to the campaign, let’s get Senator Warnock out of that seat because that seat belongs to the great people of Georgia, not to him, and it’s time for him to leave.

CLAY: Amen.

BUCK: Herschel Walker.

CLAY: Herschel, we’ll see you down in Athens.

WALKER: Hey, thank you now, and God bless.
