BUCK: You want to talk about the recession that’s not coming, according to the White House?
CLAY: Karine Jean-Pierre is on the ball, right?
BUCK: This is amazing. There’s one… There’s the redefining of “recession” out of existence, and can we even…? I was thinking about this yesterday. Can we even be surprised by this, when you think about how “men can get pregnant” is now the mantra?
CLAY: Yeah.
BUCK: So if they’re gonna say men can get pregnant, I think they can also just change the definition of “recession.” Changing the definition of “recession” is easy compared to that one. That doesn’t mean we have to go along with it, and of course we won’t. But this was particularly fun. KJP, Karine Jean-Pierre, she is out there saying not only are we not in a recession, we are not even in — and I will say, I had never… To be fair, I’d never even heard this term before. We’re not even in a “pre-recession.”
BUCK: Not even in a pre-recession.
CLAY: Did she say we’re creating 400 jobs a month?
BUCK: Yes. Yes.
CLAY: Come on.
BUCK: It’s more like 315, if we’re gonna be fair.
CLAY: She doesn’t have any clue what she’s actually saying.
BUCK: Well, 400,000 jobs, Clay, 400 jobs, all the same thing. Doesn’t matter.
CLAY: I’m betting that she jotted down 400, but she’s so clueless that she didn’t see the K or didn’t come across on her notes. And, again, that’s a lie, and we’ve been on this for a while. All of the “jobs” — and I’m using quotation marks here; people watching the video on YouTube can see this. All of the “jobs” that we’ve created, Buck, are just jobs that people already had, that they were forced to not be able to have when suddenly we went to 20% employment because we shut down the country, we’re still basically not back to where we were then.
BUCK: And also, if you look at what’s going on for the people who are in jobs, right, what is the reality right now? So they’re like, “Oh, look at how low the unemployment rate is!” A very low labor force participation, as you and I have been talking about for weeks, the weird problem of inability to staff up very much. Like, airlines, for example. There are a lot of economic dislocations occurring right now. But even beyond that, what is the reality of somebody right now who has a job and wants to be making more money and wants to be able to pay their bills? Everything gets more expensive.
CLAY: Yes.
BUCK: They’re making less money now than they were a year ago because of inflation. Wages are not keeping up with inflation. So people, yeah, they may be working, but they’re moving in the wrong direction in terms of their earning power and their economic security relative to the beginning of the Biden administration. It’s going in the wrong direction, which is why all the polls show this. And they just don’t have a good answer for it, Clay, because the real answer is we got idiots in charge who doesn’t know what they’re doing.
CLAY: We do have idiots in charge.
