Clay’s Theory: Dems Running Okey-Doke on GOP

14 Jul 2021

BIDEN: I’ll be asking my Republican friends in Congress in states and cities and counties to stand up, for God’s sake, and help prevent this concerted effort to undermine our elections and the sacred right to vote. (Applause). Have you no shame? Whenever stopping foreign interference in our elections with the spread of disinformation from within, we have to work together.

BUCK: The shamelessness belongs to Biden and the Democrats on this one. Welcome back to the Clay Travis & Buck Sexton Show. Honestly, a jaw-dropping speech in the just sheer audacity, the destructively tone, the lies, the exaggerations. What are we really looking at?

I mean, Clay, when we start to pull the facts into this, look at what’s actually happening in Texas, in Georgia, in the states that have upset the Democrats so very much, and there are, you know, a few dozen laws that have been passed that go to elections. If these were such a big problem, where’s the constitutional objection? Right? If what’s going on here was actually a violation of equal protection or a violation of the Voting Rights Act or anything, no, but instead they just talk about the Confederacy, 9/11, insurrectionists, and stopping minorities from voting. It’s just a bullcrap argument they’re making.

CLAY: Well, and if you’re going to argue that the very foundation of democracy is at stake, wouldn’t you have to acknowledge all of the lies that were told for the four years when Donald Trump was in my office? Why would that not have been a threat to the foundation of our democracies, when you had independent counsels investigating whether or not Russia had put Donald Trump in office when you effectively said that he was the Manchurian Candidate, right? A lot of left wingers did.

It is such a flagrant falsehood that it’s wild to me that all of this is going on. And this is why we teased as we went to break — I wonder how much of this — this is my theory of what’s going on. You tell me if you buy into any of this at all. And we’re obviously gonna continue to discuss this. Yesterday you were, like, hey, don’t believe that you’re really dealing with somebody very smart, because my thing was, why did they decide to give this speech on a random Tuesday, right?

BUCK: Don’t assume that they’re geniuses.

CLAY: Yeah, or that there’s a basically a chess match that you’re engaged in, right? That you’re not playing against a very high-level chess participant, chess player. But on the same day that Biden gives this speech about election interference — and I do think there’s pressure on Biden from his left-wing over the filibuster, which we can get into certainly in the next segment.

But I keep thinking about what’s going on here is, on the same day he gave the speech, a wildly left-wing budget is agreed to in the Senate with the budget committee. And I think they are okey-doking Republicans here, because they want Republicans to fight on cultural issues like voting and everything else. And, meanwhile, they want to pass the most radical budget in most of our lives, and they want the battleground to be on culture issues, as opposed to the substance of the budget. And they know that most people in the media and also, I think, frankly, most politicians are going to take the cultural bait and not focus as much on this massive, unbelievable, unlike anything we have ever seen in our lives peacetime budget that Joe Biden is ramming through.

BUCK: But a lot of the divisive back-and-forth on some of these topics, Clay — I mean, if you look at critical race theory and how that’s become a national — it’s become a national counterrevolution, really, to that, that comes from the right. I mean, there’s a clear focus on race, racial issues, and as it pertains to voting, but as it pertains to everything in the country right now. So at some level maybe this is meant to distract from the budget. But for how long and, dare I say, at what cost, right? I mean, there are other facts here. I mean, I think I would argue that the Democrats want to create enough political pressure on Sinema and Manchin that they will actually get rid of the filibuster, which I think it seems crazy right now, but a lot of things seemed crazy until Democrats want to do it.
