Buck: POTUS Speech Was “Dementia Stalin” Meets Palpatine

CLAY: Biden’s speech was such an unmitigated disaster last night that I thought even though Buck’s out in California and he’s on vacation, I bet we can get him on for a couple of minutes just to be able to tee off. So, Buck Sexton joins us now. We’ll be back together on Tuesday. Buck, I just wanted to give you an opportunity. I know a lot of people are like, hey, wonder what Buck thought too. First of all, I hope L.A.’s going well. Secondly, how awful was Biden last night?

BUCK: You know, I’m out to a romantic dinner with the fiancée. It was actually vegan Mexican because we’re in Los Angeles, you know what I mean?

CLAY: I don’t even know what that is.

BUCK: — full L.A. out here. Yeah. I didn’t, either, but it was delicious. And so, I’m sitting here and my phone is just blowing up with people saying, did you see this? I’m like “Aw, I’m on vacation. I gotta…” So, I go home. Fortunately, Carrie works at Fox News; so she kind of has to know what’s going on too even though she’s on vacation.

So, we go home — this is our romantic start of the vacation — and we flip open the laptop and we watch on playback this Biden speech. I was — I mean, I can’t repeat on radio what I was saying to her last night. This was dementia Stalin. It was crazy. I was looking at this thinking to myself, there’s so much that’s wrong with this even from a Democrat point of view, right?

I mean, on the one hand to be disparaging half the country in that way. Clearly, they’re walking it back today because they realized what a mess it is, but also it was just pathetic. They didn’t even talk about what matters to the American people right now. They’re really just going with this Russian collusion delusion threat to our democracy, people who want lower taxes, less government, and rule of law are the enemy thing. It was mind-blowing, Clay.

I mean, I didn’t think it was gonna be a good speech. I think that may have been the worst presidential speech I have seen in my lifetime. I cannot think of a worse speech than what we saw last night, which is really saying something ’cause there have been some bad ones.

CLAY: To your point, last night all Donald Trump supporters, voters are a direct threat to democracy. I think the reaction to this speech has been so bad that this morning Joe Biden was already saying, no, I don’t really think that Trump supporters are a threat to democracy.

So, I don’t know if they get — I would actually love to see whether they get sort of immediate polling data on how a speech has been received. But today it seems like they’re in full panic mode to try to cover up for — Buck, the speech itself was awful, but optics surrounding it, sort of the red glow that looked like the gates of hell, the Marines standing behind him, I mean, everything associated with this speech to me feels like an unmitigated disaster.

BUCK: I mean, you’re a Star Wars guy. We both rock out with our nerdy eighties and nineties references and then obviously this goes into the 2000s. But if you had replaced another — you know, Joe Biden is decrepit and looks like he could fall over at any moment. So does Emperor Palpatine from the Star Wars world.

If you had replaced Biden with Palpatine on that exact set and he had given Order 66 or whatever it is we talked about, you’d say, yeah. That about looks right. I mean, to have U.S. Marines kind of in the background and the red lighting, the whole thing, I mean, Joe Biden in that speech, just in terms of the visuals, could have said that he’s declaring himself dictator for life in order to save our democracy, and it wouldn’t have visually seemed out of place at all.

And, you know, Democrats are generally obsessed with optics and obsessed with the perception that these things give because the underlying substance they have is so weak and so wrong, and on the policy front Biden has had so much failure in a such a short period of time; so, you would think that they would try to at least get the visuals right.

And the fact that they didn’t, you know, at some level, Clay, I think they’ve created — it’s a bit of the CNN syndrome. They’ve created a monster in their own base, in their own audience, and they don’t know how to stop it. They don’t know how to turn off this “We can’t just have political disputes anymore that we settle at the ballot box. We have to convince our base that anybody who disagrees with us is a cheater, a monster, and a threat.”

And that’s something that once you’ve told people that, it’s very hard, once you brainwashed the Democrat base into that, I think it’s really hard to turn it off. I’m not sure they want to turn it off, but even if they did, I don’t think they could, which leads to some of what we saw last night. I think it leads into, well, we gotta, you know, placate the lunatic anti-Trump, Trump derangement core. And so, that’s how you end up doing that thing.

But, I mean, it really — it really was like he was standing in front of the Politburo and announcing that the counter-revolutionaries now have to be purged. It was shocking, man. I mean, the Democrats who put that at the beginning or whoever was in charge of that speech should definitely be fired. Not that that would do anything for the country, but, I mean, it was that level of bad.

CLAY: It is funny to think about. If you replace the Marines with storm troopers, that would be a perfect Emperor Palpatine address about why he was, you know, disbanding the Senate and taking over as the leader of the Empire. If that hasn’t already occurred from a meme perspective to spread throughout the internet, now that you mention it, like the storm trooper angle would really be unbelievable, to just see how out of touch and how quickly they’re trying to step back.

And, Buck, to me, this represents one of the best things for the midterms is the more Biden talks, the more it helps Republicans. Have an awesome time. Tell Carrie hi, have a great time in L.A. We’ll be back on Tuesday. Have a good Labor Day weekend.

BUCK: Thanks, man. Psyched. I’ll see you Tuesday. Next weekend, football, baby. I’m excited.

CLAY: Yeah. We’re gonna be down in Austin, Texas, next weekend Thursday, Friday. We had the governor of Texas on, Herschel Walker, Joe Weasel about the fight for football. I think you guys are gonna love the podcast. Thanks to Buck Sexton for hopping on from his vacation. Wanted to give him a chance to say what he thought about the most disastrous speech of the most disastrous president of any of our lives.

Midterms are beckoning. Come Tuesday we’ll officially be in the sprint towards what’s going to happen in November, and we will be here leading that charge with you guys every single day. Hope you all have fantastic Labor Day weekends. Thank you so much for the time, energy, and effort you are putting into this show. We work to honor it every single day. Have a great Labor Day.
