Letters from Iwo Jima

7 Jun 2024

“I actually think Letters from Iwo Jima is very interesting. I know it’s from the Japanese perspective, but it doesn’t hold anything back. And it’s, I think that’s a very interesting and kind of under watched, World War II movie.” — Buck Sexton

The Second World War

7 Jun 2024

“I think that a really good place to start would be Keegan’s one volume of The Second World War. If you just want an overview, I think Keegan’s The First World War and his The Second World War histories are really excellent.” — Buck Sexton

With the Old Breed

7 Jun 2024

“I feel like I’ve actually read more about the Pacific Theater, all in, than I have the European theater. Obviously, you have With the Old Breed, which is phenomenal. There’s Helmet for My Pillow, is the other one. And they kind of combined those for The Pacific, the HBO show, The Pacific. They had elements of both of those, autobiographies, if memory serves. So those are really good.” – Buck Sexton

D-Day

“D-Day, June 6th, 1944, which I believe came out on the 50th anniversary, basically of D-Day. Also by Stephen Ambrose is a pretty incredible read as well. I’m well versed in Civil War. I read both of those, really enjoyed them. They were not complicated. They were not overwhelming. And, most ages, I think, could read them.” — Clay Travis

Band of Brothers

“I know they turned it into a miniseries on HBO. If you have the time, Stephen Ambrose’s book, Band of Brothers, I encourage you to read the book, but, if you watch the movie or the television series, you see what all those men were jumping into, which I think did a really good job of kind of giving you an idea of what that visual would have been like for so many of those guys.” — Clay Travis

The War On Warriors

5 Jun 2024

“Political ideologies have captured the top of our Pentagon, and that’s proliferated throughout the institution, and it’s made our ranks less accountable. It’s lowered the standards. They’re less prepared. Commanders are walking on eggshells. And, as a result, they’re less capable. But it’s something that can be reversed. And I wanted to sound the alarm on it now in the hopes that we can right the ship.” — Pete Hegseth

Second Class

23 May 2024

“I traveled around the country for a year interviewing working class people from all political persuasions, all races, lots of different industries to get their thoughts on whether they think they still have a fair shot at the American dream. And really, how we could increase their shot at the American dream. And I heard a lot of them talking about how betrayed they feel by the elites and, by the way, by the elites, they don’t mean billionaires. A lot of them admire billionaires. They see billionaires as jobs — jobs creators.” — Batya Ungar-Sargon

Swimming Against the Current

“I believe our nation is in decline for several reasons, one of which we live in a godless society, but, two, it’s because we have weak, weak leaders again at every level. We have weak leaders in academia. We have weak leaders in corporate America. We have, weak leaders, of course, within our government. Even our spiritual leaders, so it seems, are unwilling to take a stand on these topics that they have deemed controversial.” — Riley Gaines

“So I wrote the book as really an insider in prestige media. I think that was what was going on at the New York Times, which anyone from the outside can obviously see what’s happening inside, more or less. I think what was going on there is also going on within NPR, within half a dozen of the prestige media brands.” — Nellie Bowles
