President Biden, desperate to change the narrative, is building a levee against the looming Red Wave by pardoning some federal drug offenses. Here’s his written statement.

Too many lives have been upended because of our failed approach to marijuana.

Today I announced a pardon of all prior federal offenses of simple possession of marijuana, urged governors to do the same, and asked HHS and DOJ to review how marijuana is scheduled under federal law.

As I’ve said before, no one should be in jail just for using or possessing marijuana.

Second: I’m calling on governors to pardon simple state marijuana possession offenses. Just as no one should be in a federal prison solely for possessing marijuana, no one should be in a local jail or state prison for that reason, either.

Third: We classify marijuana at the same level as heroin – and more serious than fentanyl. It makes no sense. I’m asking @SecBecerra and the Attorney General to initiate the process of reviewing how marijuana is scheduled under federal law.

There’s some pushback, but most people buy into the myth that weed is harmless.

I agree with Joe Biden – no one should be in jail for no reason other than simple possession of marijuana.

But, let’s be real: he isn’t issuing these pardons out of the kindness of his heart.

He’s issuing them because he’s a President on the verge of political extinction.
