Are You Pro or Con on FJB Chants?

CLAY: Buck, one of the most, I would say, viral meme-worthy moments of the fall has been the FJB chants that have taken off across country at many different sporting events, and they’re not saying… Joe Biden is the J and the B, and I think you can probably think about what the first word is. They’re not saying “Buck,” but they’re saying something close.

Joe Biden… After a NASCAR win over the weekend, they had a NASCAR reporter who was saying, “Oh, they’re chanting, ‘Let’s go, Brandon!'” because the race car driver who had won was named Brandon. (laughing) Well, it’s kind of clear what people were chanting in Michigan yesterday when Joe Biden showed up to make the case for his Build Back or Make Better America or whatever the heck that stupid bill is called. Here is what it sounded like for everyone who was lined up as Joe Biden drove by. What I think is interesting about this is, and it’s tough if you’re a parent to try to explain this one but listen along.

CROWD: F(bleep), Joe Biden! (clap, clap, clap, clap, clap) F(bleep), Joe Biden! (clap, clap, clap, clap, clap) F(bleep), Joe Biden! (clap, clap, clap, clap, clap) F(bleep), Joe Biden! (clap, clap, clap, clap, clap)

CLAY: So you get the sense of what’s going on there, Buck. Are you pro or con on the FJB chant that is spreading like wildfire?

BUCK: I like, “Let’s go, Brandon.”

CLAY: Yes.

BUCK: I think that’s the way to do it just because people who know, know.

CLAY: Yes.

BUCK: Look… (sigh) I curse in my private life freely, as the staff here can attest.

CLAY: Yes.

BUCK: Not at people, but I curse in general.

CLAY: Yeah.

BUCK: So I don’t pretend to be opposed to salty language. I don’t know, though. I don’t have kids. You have kids. Would you want…? Your oldest is what, 12, right?

CLAY: My kids have been exposed to this. I had this conversation with my wife the other night, and I think where I come down is, I disagree with Joe Biden on a lot, and I think it’s really, really funny, and if I were in college, I would definitely want to chant this in a crowd at a game.

BUCK: Yes. I would do it if I were college age. I don’t think I would do it now.

CLAY: Right.

BUCK: I would chant “Let’s go, Brandon,” and I’m saying it on the radio here. I don’t think the FCC is gonna bleep me for that. For kids? I don’t know. I don’t want to be a stickler, but I feel like we don’t want kids cursing like that. I don’t know. You know what I mean? I’m the cool uncle. You’re actually a dad.

CLAY: Yeah, I know it fits the claps, sort of the — I don’t know — the onomatopoeia, whatever the word is.

BUCK: Onomatopoeia, I believe.

CLAY: Did I get that right? So it fits well in that flowchart, and so I also think it’s representative of the overall massive decline in Joe Biden’s popularity, but I don’t necessarily like the idea of having kids in a public stadium and the president’s getting disrespected like that, even though I think certainly Biden’s doing a horrible job.
