December 7, 1941, “a date which will live in infamy.” Today is Pearl Harbor Day, when we mark America being thrust into World War II by the Empire of Japan’s attack on our military base in Pearl Harbor.
In the audio link above, Buck remembers his grandfather, Lawrence F. Hickey, who served on the USS Bataan. He also reads an excerpt from Donald Stratton’s book: All the Gallant Men: An American Sailor’s Firsthand Account of Pearl Harbor
We are walking 50 miles from Kaneohe to Pearl Harbor to honor the 81st anniversary of the attack on #PearlHarbor, and our brothers and sisters who have paid the ultimate price. We honor all who serve & sacrifice to defend the safety, security and freedom of the American people. pic.twitter.com/Tq35dvsBMv

On National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day, we honor those whose lives were cut short that tragic morning. And we reflect on the resilience of our Armed Forces who withstood the attack and built the most capable fighting force in the world.

It’s worth watching President Franklin D. Roosevelt’s speech to remember how we confronted this threat, and to realize how far we’ve come from that moment of putting America first.
