Ready for a Booster Every 4 Months?
18 Feb 2022
CLAY: We talked about the insanity and how many of you are jumping off — even if you initially were on — the train of following along with everything that you’re being told. How often are you gonna need a booster for covid? There’s a possibility here, according to BU, Boston University medical professor Dr. Nahid Bhadelia. She doesn’t know, but it might be every four months. Listen to this.
BHADELIA: We do know that boosters even as the, uh, antibodies after boosters go down, Israel data… Israel data shows that there’s still good protection against hospitalizations. Now, could a new variant come on the horizon that changes it? Could…? As more time go by, could we see that those people who had prior infections and have had vaccination do lose some of the protection against those measures?
Y’know, they should retain more protection against more severe findings as well as hospitalizations and deaths compared to just infections, but we don’t know. And the other part is that even as we’re coming out of this Omicron wave, we know that immunity against Omicron — which, in many cases, caused, y’know, more — less severe infection in people who are vaccinated. Uh, and we don’t know how much of that immunity will protect against future variants. Right? So we don’t yet know that.
BUCK: So, Clay, we’ve just gotta get ready for it. Remember we played comedian Tyler Fischer yesterday?
CLAY: Yeah, that was so funny.
BUCK: He said, “The ninth, 10th, and 11th shots prepare you for 12, 13, and 14. They go in like butter! No problem, smooth as can be.” It’s funny ’cause it’s kind of true, folks, because they’ve just glided beyond the initial “get the shot and you’re done” to “Eh, shots forever. No big deal. Get shots forever!” You know what the long-term safety data is, Clay, on fourth, fifth, sixth shots for people? It doesn’t exist. How do I know that? Because they’re just deciding now (laughing) that we should be getting a fourth shot. They haven’t even had these things for a year yet.
CLAY: I’m gonna be like 46 shots behind by the time we actually get data.
BUCK: Do you have to get a catch-up regimen? You you’re gonna be a pincushion, get 10 shots in one day?
CLAY: I don’t even know! I’m four behind already.
