Chicago’s Profane Mayor, Lori Lightfoot, Lectures on Civility

6 Jul 2022

BUCK: Lori Lightfoot is right behind de Blasio in terms of being an awful mayor. She’s really pretty terrible, and she’s also now lecturing people on civility. Here is Lori Lightfoot just calling out the “toxic discourse” yesterday in Chicago, Illinois.

LIGHTFOOT: The toxicity in our public discourse is a thing that I think we should all be concerned about, right? And it’s ironic, obviously we were having this conversation and what happened on Independence Day. You know, we’re not like a lot of other countries who are — their version of Independence Day is marked with, you know, troops and tanks and… No. What we do in the United States is we come together as a community.

BUCK: It’s just interesting, Clay, ’cause she’s calling for civility in our discourse, and this was last week the mayor of Chicago not sounding so civil.

BUCK: “[Bleep] Clarence Thomas!” That was the mayor of Chicago talking about a Supreme Court justice a week ago. But, you know, she wants everyone to be nice to each other when speaking about contentious issues, apparently.

CLAY: It’s perfect. It’s perfect. One week ago, “F… Clarence Thomas,” Lori Lightfoot, mayor of Chicago, on the stage in front of a massive crowd. Two days ago Lori Lightfoot, “Hey, we need more civility in politics.” How about you actually practice to some level what you preach? Just a little bit of individual responsibility! There will be relatively few media out there that will even bother to point out this alarming hypocrisy from Lori Lightfoot. Is she gonna get reelected? Surely the city of Chicago can find someone more competent than her, right?

BUCK: I think that there’s a problem that was described to me once by a hedge fund manager that I knew. He called it repeat surprise. I don’t know if that’s a real thing or if it’s just something that he made up so I’d have to check that out, Clay. But it’s essentially when a stock is going down —

CLAY: Yeah.

BUCK: — and all the indicators are the stock is gonna keep going down, but because you had previously convinced yourself, “I’m so smart, I know the stock is going up,” you’ll then the next quarter get more — you know, another earnings report, bam! Stock goes down again. He calls it repeat surprise because you should have known this but you’re almost surprised for the second time and it’s because you think that you’re right and you ignore the actual indicators of what’s going on.

CLAY: Covid policy for Democrats.

BUCK: Perfect. Exactly right. Covid policy for Democrats and also I would say voting for a lot of these Democrats. I think that for a lot of people, a lot of leftists and Democrats — same thing — they’re much more psychologically comfortable with, “I’m going to be right. Just wait. I’m going to be right.” Ignore everything that they’re seeing with Biden, with Lightfoot, with name a Democrat politician or policy, for that matter. “At some point I’ll be right,” and then they’re surprised again because they’re rather believe than look at what’s real.

CLAY: We have acknowledged — and I think everyone agrees — that Joe Biden say disaster as president. And one way to establish that you’re a disaster as president is by pointing to all of the poor decisions you’ve made and the outcomes that result. Buck, what is something that Democrats have gotten right? They’re obsessed with being on, quote, “the right side of history.” That’s been the argument ever since Trump was elected. “Well, we’ll be on the right side of history.” Increasingly, Democrats are clearly on the wrong side of history.

Now, you and I both know ’cause we’re big history nerds, a lot of times you don’t know the right or wrong side of history for 50 or a hundred years because that’s the way history works. Most of us don’t know if we’re on the right side of history for everything sometimes ’til well after our lives are over. I’m very confident, Buck, that you and I are on the right side of history as it pertains to covid. We’re seeing more and more people come on and even in the shift of Joe Biden saying, because of covid, kids have fallen behind.

They’re trying to argue that it was covid. No, no, no. I had seen were never in danger from covid. It was our policies. That’s a pretty significant shift that they’re trying to make right now. I believe that Democrats who have been arguing against Trump that they were on the right side of history actually elected Joe Biden, who is the worst president in a hundred years. They’re, by definition, on the wrong side of history about almost everything, and they aren’t cognitively aware of it because they refuse to acknowledge the data.

BUCK: I was just talking to a family member the other day about how one of the ways that people will say, “Oh, you’re so…” I’m not talking about the great Asheville mask kerfuffle of 2022. Put that aside. But why was I so confident that I wasn’t being politicized in my thinking about covid? It’s because when I had the opportunity to meet with President Trump in the Oval Office in May of 2020, the thing that I was most vociferous about, the thing that I shook the president’s hand — we weren’t wearing masks, by the way.

I shook the president’s hand and said, “Mr. President, please, no more lockdowns, we gotta stop this, no more mask mandates. We gotta get out of this.” And he said, “Buck, I agree. We’re gonna do everything we can” — and, by the way, he did allow the states to reopen. And he could have locked everything down to the end of the year if he had wanted to as we’ve discussed. It was about what was right. It wasn’t about, “Oh, Trump liked this then, I liked this then.”

I went in there gonna say my piece no matter what. I didn’t care what anybody was gonna say. For Democrats, I think the results now are so bad that the only thing they can come up with is our actual government would collapse if the other guy was in power. Do you know what I mean? It’s not about the politics. It’s about results for you and me. For Democrats, it’s about the tribal affiliation with Democrats and leftists.

CLAY: You have to be willing to challenge your own thinking in order to succeed is a high level. For me, it was always about the data. If you can provide data to show me that my belief is factually inaccurate from a data perspective, I’m open to it on virtually any subject under the sun. The data on covid, it was so clear.

Trump Would Get Brittney Griner on the Next Flight Home

6 Jul 2022

CLAY: Brittney Griner wrote a letter. She is a WNBA star, formerly from Baylor.

BUCK: Oh, I saw it because she’s disappointed in Biden. So anytime someone’s disappointed in Biden, that comes on my radar.

CLAY: Okay, and I know you know that she was already imprisoned because right about the time the Ukraine war in Russia started, a lot of women’s basketball players go to Russia where they can evidently make more money than they could if they were playing solely in the United States. So she was arrested for drug possession, allegedly. She is still in prison.

BUCK: Wasn’t it just like a little bit of, like, residue in a vape pen? It wasn’t like she was moving heavy weight.

CLAY: Yeah. She didn’t move to Russia to try to become like a drug kingpin, I don’t think. It was for individual use. Side note, if you are young and you are listening to us and might be inclined to travel with marijuana or any other kind of drug, first of all, don’t do drug, kids. Second, certainly do not have possession of drugs ever in a foreign country, period.

BUCK: You are stepping into a world of guilty pleasure TV watching that I went through for a while with Locked Up Abroad where it’s like every episode is like, yeah, I was holiday and I was like I need to make a little extra cash, you know, so this guy’s like just take this big brown package that smells a bit like marijuana and I tried to get it through the airport and then get back to the U.K. on me holiday. And I was facing 40 years in a labor camp. You’re like, yes, dude, do not take the giant package of drugs through the airport in Thailand.

CLAY: Brokedown Palace back in the day. That was another one. Take it from me, who practiced law in the Caribbean, am still licensed there, jail in America ain’t great, all right? I’m not pretending that you’re gonna have an amazing time in prison in the United States. But it’s a whole hell of a lot better than most prisons in a foreign country.

BUCK: I rode in Bermuda when I was there with Carrie with just randomly and I like to talk to locals and learn about the island. The former director of prisons in Bermuda for 30 years. He was an Uber — or a taxi driver. You don’t have Ubers there. And I asked him. He seemed like a very nice guy, how many prisons do you have, a couple of hundred, not very many; so what’s it like for them? He was like, horrible. No air-conditioning, folks.

CLAY: Yeah.

BUCK: Start with that. You’re in a prison in a tropical or subtropical climate, no air-conditioning.

CLAY: Yeah. U.S. Virgin Islands where I was a lawyer, am still licensed as a lawyer, went into those prisons, and it was terrifying to think about being in prison there. So Brittney Griner overseas, we know it’s not a good position for her, probably being treated better than the average prisoner in Russia, I would imagine.

BUCK: Maybe, maybe not, given the Russia-U.S. relationship right now.

CLAY: Yeah. Well, so she penned a letter to Joe Biden, said she had never worked for — voted for a president before, she voted for Biden asking for his help, and then her WNBA coach stepped in as well and said if this were LeBron James he’s already be out of Russian prison. I agree with her. I don’t think there’s any doubt that LeBron, bigger celebrity, would be out. I also would point this out, Buck:

If Donald Trump were still president of the United States, Brittney Griner wouldn’t be in prison anymore in rush, either. I think he would have gotten her out opposite maybe a sign that she voted for the wrong person in the 2020 presidential election, but also just a further sign of Joe Biden’s incompetence. I know a lot of people out there aren’t rap fiends or huge rap fans, I would guess, but A$AP Rocky was arrested. Was it in Sweden, Buck?

BUCK: Sweden. For assault, yes.

CLAY: For assault, and Trump basically threatened a trade war with Sweden to get him back, and I don’t think there’s any doubt that Brittney Griner, Trump would have done whatever was necessary to get her out of that country either. I just don’t have any doubt. With Biden’s incompetence, which exists everywhere, I don’t know when Brittney Griner is gonna be back.

BUCK: Yeah. I think she’s in a very tough spot because there’s also the additional considerations of the Russians now wanting leverage. So, you give them an opening to hold the high profile, to have a basis… Look. Obviously, they found some residue in a vape pen. She wasn’t trafficking. The whole thing seems completely trumped up and absurd. But obviously sloppy. You don’t want to… Don’t take your vape pen you smoke weed in to a foreign country.

Important safety tip for everybody: Don’t bring any illegal substances to any foreign country with you, especially ’cause you don’t know the laws, you don’t know the legal system on top of that. But they may be holding her for leverage with America. At some point, they may want to do some kind of either a prisoner swap or they may want to do a, “Okay, you better drop those sanctions against a few of those oligarchs.” That’s the kind of quid pro quo, horse trading, the Russians are gonna be looking at.

CLAY: And it is indicative of how often media in sports and also athletes speak out aggressively on things that are much less consequential. I haven’t seen a lot of athletes demanding that Brittney Griner be freed, and I haven’t seen a lot of sports media members who usually love to argue about anything political related also making those arguments. Now, early on the report was, well, don’t draw attention to it because it’s more likely it’s gonna get resolved.

Now that we’re talking months and months in, that sort of idea of being less aggressive in drawing attention to it has faded and still we’re not getting any kind of different result there, and this is just I think part and parcel, again, of Joe Biden’s incompetence. And I would ask everybody out there, talk to your kids. If they’re going overseas, make it clear to them, be careful, because American protections don’t extend everywhere overseas and you might find yourself in the middle of something far bigger than yourself, as Brittney Griner clearly has, Buck, with the Russia-Ukraine war going on and United States-Russia relations being where they are.

BUCK: And I could maybe add a little bit of insight from my previous life here working for the federal government. If you’re relying on U.S. embassy employees or folks from the consulate abroad to save your bacon, you’re in a whole lot of trouble. They’re gonna do what they can maybe when they get to it. You do not want to be incarcerated in a furnish country and hope that embassy comes through big for you. All of a sudden, people realize the embassy will show up and say you know you’re subject to the laws of the country you’re in, right? They’re there to remind you, “You know that we’re gonna try to ask nicely, but you’re kind of screwed.” That’s what they actually end up doing a lot of the time.

DeSantis Worries Dems By Delivering Freedom in Florida

6 Jul 2022

CLAY: We discussed yesterday the Wall Street Journal article about the fact that red states have recovered far more rapidly and in fact now employ more people than they did pre-covid while blue states are still over a million jobs behind. The state of Florida is surging. So many people are relocating to Florida, Texas, Tennessee. I saw in that Wall Street Journal article my home state of Tennessee grew at a white-hot 8.6% rate, the fastest in the nation, and also that the unemployment rate in Tennessee is at its lowest recorded level.

Buck, off air you and I were just talking that the states that made the best decisions, thanks to federalism, are now being rewarded. More people are moving there. More people with high incomes are moving to these states, and that’s going to make those governments even more efficient and better. This is how federalism was designed to work: 50 state laboratories. The states that make the right decisions get the benefit of population growth and economic growth, and that’s what we’re seeing happen, right?

BUCK: New York, California, Illinois losing people because of their governance. I’m a New Yorker, so, trust me, I feel this, for everybody who’s listening on WOR. But because of the governance, we should be losing people out of state. That’s just the reality of how the system is supposed to work. We have different state governments operating so that we can see what works, what doesn’t, and we can have some choice, right?

This is where I think the pandemic has reminded people that state government really does matter. I do believe that we have gotten into a frame of mind where for a lot of people maybe the local government mattered to them because community regulations and things. But state government, people barely even cared who their governor was.

CLAY: You’re preaching to the choir here, man, and I’ll take it even further, Buck. I didn’t even know who was on my school board. I just didn’t pay attention. I didn’t think about it. I was worried about president — maybe I’m paying attention to the Senate, the national picture — but I didn’t really focus that much on the state.

BUCK: And now when you realize that a bad governor — and the covid bad governor list has many names, but you can certainly throw Gavin Newsom, Cuomo — too bad, too bad — Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan and Pritzker of Illinois and you go down this list. The bad governors, they weren’t just saying things on TV that were annoying. They were telling you, “Your business is not important enough! Shut it down. Oh, maybe you’re gonna go bankrupt? Too bad for you.

“You mean the PPP doesn’t cover,” which it didn’t for a lot of people, “everything that you needed for their business to thrive? Too bad. Your business isn’t important enough. Your kids don’t get to go to school. Your kids have to mask up. You have to mask up. People realize, all of a sudden, “Hold on a second. That they can do that much to me in my state,” and the big problem that we faced was that if you lived in a red state under the Trump administration, things were pretty okay, although some of them — Texas, Abbott should have done a better job in Texas.

I give him a B- from what I could see as an outside and from all my friends, I talk to our buddy Jesse Kelly and so many others down in that state who say that it just wasn’t a good…he didn’t do a good job at all. Michael Berry was telling us. I was like, “How is Abbott?” He’s like, “Eh, you know. Michael knows. Not doing a great job during covid. But then when they got the federal government, now it was, “Well, now you have to deal with this madness pretty much no matter where you are.”

So, it was heads they win, tails they win. Right? It didn’t matter, effectively. And, you know, for a lot of people, at least. And that’s why I think we see your state can only do so much when the federal government overreaches. And then when finally, the madness passed, Florida, Tennessee, getting huge influxes of people, driving up real estate prices; so that’s a good thing for people that have owned.

CLAY: It’s a good thing if you own. The problem is you’re gonna have to pay it if you move to a new house, right, unless move to a new state now. But Ron DeSantis — I’m down in Florida. This is my final day down here. I’ve been down here for 10 days, working, and DeSantis… I know there’s a lot of you out there who were so incredibly frustrated about this. DeSantis, they have a new law in Florida to make sure that patients’ rights are protected. This clip is from April, but it has now gone into effect so that you can speak to your family and you’re not gonna have this situation where someone dies and they’re not even allowed to speak to their family. Listen to Ron DeSantis talk about this patients’ rights law.

BUCK: We need to remind everybody of this, Clay, because those covid policies like what Governor DeSantis just talked about was going on in other states during the pandemic, they were stupid and cruel.

CLAY: Yes.

BUCK: Both of those things were happening on a regular basis, stupid, worthless, cruel policies that the Fauciites pushed on all of us. And we have not had an election referendum on this where we’ve seen, this is now an opportunity. The Democrats want you to forget about the padlocked schools and the padlocked playgrounds. They want you to forget about double masking, which they actually told us for a while. Remember that? They told us we should all double mask.

CLAY: Oh, yeah.

BUCK: People act like this is normal.

CLAY: That was happening, too, all these crazy people in Congress. And did you see what happened with Joe Biden? I mean, he’s still trying this. They recognize now that everything they did for covid was a disaster. And we’re gonna talk about the DeSantis policy here in a sec but I want to make sure I read this to you. I’m sure you saw this yesterday, Buck. But Joe Biden, it’s suddenly… You know that meme of the guy walking around in the hot dog suit where it’s like, “I don’t even know who could have done this.”

That’s kind of every time that there’s something crazy that happens, people share that online. Well, Joe Biden tweeted, “Due to the pandemic, kids are…” This is yesterday. “Due to the pandemic, kids are behind in math and reading. We know how to help bridge this gap.” Okay. So, what they’re trying to say now — and this is important, and I want all of you to recognize what’s going on — is “due to the pandemic.” That’s not true. It was the choices that Democrats and the teachers’ unions made during the pandemic that led us here.

But this rhetorical shift that they’re attempting to make now is, “Well, we had no choices. Due to the pandemic, kids are behind in math and reading.” No, no, no, no. Due to our response to the pandemic, which was led by Democrat mayors, Democrat blue states. You know where kids are not behind? Florida, where Ron DeSantis kept them in school. Tennessee, where Bill Lee kept them in school. The states where kids were able to be in school.

And so, as a result of that crazy policy that you just heard Ron DeSantis announce back in April, grandma’s dying, she can hug her grandkids. Somebody who’s been married for 50 years and is losing a spouse, they can hug their spouse. Now they are coming with loaded bear guns for Ron DeSantis. They’re writing all their articles, Buck. They’re saying he’s worse than Trump. How dare he.

BUCK: This is great. The Washington Post just a few hours ago: “DeSantis is smarter than Trump. That may make him more of a threat.” We should all be super scared of this, of course, and they’ve been running this out there for a while. What they mean by “bigger threat,” they’re gonna say, “Threat to our democracy. Oh, my gosh.” What they mean is, threat to their power, as in, who are they going to put up?

What exactly is the attack on DeSantis supposed to be right now? Let’s really think about this. That he was right about everything with covid, that he had far less learning loss or any problems than these blue state governors that they all try to hold up as heroes, that his state is flush with cash, that it has less than half the budget of New York which it actually has more people than, that people are flocking there, that real estate prices are exploding —

CLAY: Skyrocketing.

BUCK: — that I’m thinking about moving there myself.

CLAY: Yep.

BUCK: What exactly is the attack? It’s so miserable that everybody wants to be there and it’s been great if you’ve been living there during the pandemic? That doesn’t seem like — oh, he’s criminalizing women. That’s what Gavin Newsom said. It’s a crime to be a woman now in Florida. Yeah, I know some women in Florida. I think they’re doing okay.

CLAY: I think they’re doing pretty well. Now, Florida is gonna have to decide what to do, as every state will, in the wake of Roe v. Wade being returned to the states. And we need to talk about some of the poll results that are coming out there, too, Buck, because 75%, for instance, in the most recent Harvard-Harris poll said they didn’t believe the Supreme Court should be making decisions and that democratic process should play out as it pertains to abortion.

So, Democrats are in a tough spot because also data is reflecting 90% of Americans don’t believe in late-term abortions. And Democrats are even supposedly moderate Democrats like Tim Ryan in Ohio, who doesn’t have the time today to meet with Joe Biden. I love that Joe Biden is so unpopular that even Senate candidates in their states — Stacey Abrams in Georgia, this happened. Raphael Warnock, I think. Now it’s Tim Ryan in Ohio. The president of the United States coming to your state, you’re running for the Senate, your schedule is too about his to hang out with them? It’s amazing how that works.

BUCK: I just want to remind everyone, even Democrats knew, through three election cycles plus where Biden officially ran and many others where he thought about it, even Democrats knew Joe Biden was a sub-mediocrity and a loser until like five minutes ago. They knew it. But they just figured it’s the pandemic, everyone knows his name, it’s the brand that people know and we’ll just go with it.

CLAY: “We’re gonna hide him in the basement.” Joe Biden got elected president because of covid ’cause he ran a campaign from the basement which was all about Trump, and they also did everything they could to change the election procedures in many different toss-up states and they terrified suburban women by Joe Biden saying, “I’ll solve covid.” More people are dying with covid today — you’re not hearing media talk about it — than were dying with covid at this time last year. Did you know that, Buck? July 4th last year, compare it. It’s up about 50%, the covid deaths ’cause the covid shots don’t really do very much in terms of providing long-range protection.

Aide for NYC’s Jet-Skiing Mayor Robbed at Gunpoint

6 Jul 2022

BUCK: This is one of those things that you see and it’s just one incident. It’s just one news story, but it feels like it’s indicative of so much more that is going on, in this case in America’s largest city. Yesterday an aide to New York City Mayor Eric Adams, who was scouting a location for a mayoral visit, was robbed at gunpoint. An aide to the new mayor of New York City — a mayor who was elected to clean up crime in this city, who was constantly pointing to his law enforcement credentials, which weren’t really as extensive as people were led to believe (that’s a whole other conversation) — as why he’s the guy to clean up New York, his aide was robbed, the mayor’s aide, at gunpoint, in broad daylight, Tuesday morning in Brooklyn, just yesterday. Clay, the city’s not cleaned up. That’s for sure.

CLAY: Did you see how New York City’s mayor spent July 4th?

BUCK: I’m assuming with celebrities taking selfies.

CLAY: I’m sure that was a part of it. He also was on shark patrol on a jet ski.

BUCK: Are you serious?

CLAY: Yes, which I don’t even begrudge him.

BUCK: Sharks are scary, to be fair.

CLAY: It actually sounds kind of fun, but I don’t know that it’s the most efficient way that the mayor could be spending his time on July 4th. I’m not kidding.

BUCK: It would be very effective in, like, Coney Island, and we have very effective anti-shark deterrent of just about a quarter mile of, like, sludge and trash that’s scattered around the beach, and so the sharks can’t go through that. Man, they see enough empty bottles and refuse they go, “Ugh! I’m gonna go somewhere else.”

CLAY: I’ll tell you this. They say that the East River is cleaner now than it has been at any point since the Civil War.

BUCK: That is actually true. That is actually true.

CLAY: I was reading this morning, there were dolphins sighted in the East River in the past couple of weeks.

BUCK: Look at you with all the NYC knowledge! I was going with the false stereotype, and actually they have cleaned up Hudson and East Rivers very dramatically.

Kamala Is Seriously, Seriously, Seriously Bad

6 Jul 2022

CLAY: We just had a real, I think, nuanced, intelligent discussion about how to respond to Highland Park. Kamala Harris, she went to Highland Park; she had a lot to say. Listen.

CLAY: If you couldn’t hear that audio necessarily fantastically well, she used the word “seriously” there off the top about eight times, and I’m not claiming that either Buck or I are perfect wordsmiths when it comes to speaking on a daily basis. But, Buck, if you or I were talking to the media as frequently and Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are, do you have any doubt that we would be infinitely better at speaking to the media on all of these issues than they are?

I just can’t believe how atrocious in particular Kamala Harris is, ‘cause at least you can point to Joe Biden and say, “Hey, I don’t think we do a poor job speaking now, but we’re relatively young guys relative to politicians’ ages. If we were 80, I don’t know that we’d be great at it.” But Kamala (laughing) is so bad at her job, which is communication. They’re really legitimately atrocious at speaking to the American public.

BUCK: It’s remarkable how much incompetence there is in this White House. I remember it was very different early on when I had left the CIA and was doing media stuff over at The Blaze. Glenn Beck started my career over at TheBlaze.com, and we were covering the Obama administration — this is 2011 — and it was always, “Man…” You had some of these people like White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel, for example. Nobody was saying — no one thought – -Rahm Emanuel was an idiot.

CLAY: Yeah, right.

BUCK: Rahm Emanuel was cunning, he was ruthless. No one thought he was dumb, you know. I’ve said this about Obama. Obama wasn’t dumb. I just disagreed with —

CLAY: Obama’s very smart.

BUCK: — him strenuously —

CLAY: You don’t end up the editor of the Harvard Law Review and fake your way there. You have to be a very smart guy to get there.

BUCK: Just the point here, we don’t do… What the Democrats do is, “Everybody I disagree with is so dumb.” We don’t do that. We’re not saying that. I bring that up as a preamble here because a lot of the people in the Biden administration are really dumb, okay? It’s just the truth. And I know it seems so simplistic. But this is… You have people who this is not even their A-Team for the Democrats.

I think you have a lot of folks who realized that this was probably gonna be a very difficult presidency to prop up, and a lot of the smarter people went with some of the other younger, more inspiring candidates early on in the campaign and maybe they were boxed out of Biden world. But just… You look at this, and Kamala… Who is supposed to be the messenger for this administration that anybody has any faith in, even Democrats? The answer is I don’t know. I don’t think there is one.

CLAY: This is a problem when checking a box, “cosmetic diversity,” is a huge part of how you fill out your administration. And that’s what Joe Biden did. He’s an old white guy. He’s afraid of being a target for being an old white guy, and so he zealously looked, not towards the individual talents of the members of his cabinet, but to make sure that they all fulfilled some form of cosmetic diversity. Nothing is a better example of that than his vice president, than Mayor Pete. You just run down the list, Buck. We said earlier: There’s no one that I trust to be competent in this entire administration.

BUCK: Do you think, though, they’re gonna be able to make this seamless transition to, “Forget about Trump, Ron DeSantis is the scariest person in the history of the republic! Ron DeSantis is gonna bring it all crashing down!” ‘Cause they’re already starting.

President Bans Offshore Drilling Amid Gas Crisis

6 Jul 2022

CLAY: They just dropped this on Friday. Even in the midst of this gas price crisis, they are declining to allow more offshore drilling. The Biden administration effectively banned it in the Atlanta and the Pacific. Now, offshore. This got dropped on a Friday. The Wall Street Journal had a good article about it, but most people didn’t even notice it. So, Joe Biden later this month is going to Saudi Arabia where he is going to get on bended knee and beg the Saudis to produce more oil.

This is how you know the climate change insanity is out of control. If we produced the oil, it’s unacceptable. But if somebody else produces the oil, it’s acceptable. It’s the same impact on the economy. It doesn’t matter if it’s Saudi Arabia or Venezuela or Iran or Russia. The only difference is, instead of giving them billions of dollars, we make billions of dollars.

BUCK: The first thing Biden did when he came into office — they won — was cancel the Keystone XL pipeline. The State Department, including under the Obama administration, spent years assessing the carbon footprint of that pipeline. You know what it found? Oil is coming out of the ground one way or another.

CLAY: No matter what.

BUCK: We can either benefit from it, or we can not benefit from it, and you know what the Dems, libs decided? “Let’s let other people benefit from it, ’cause climate change,” ’cause they’re emotional wrecks.

CLAY: Emotional wrecks but also so dishonest that this could ever have arisen.

CLAY: All right. So they are not disputing, at least so far, that’s Joe Biden on the voicemail, and here is Joe Biden lying to Peter Doocy’s face saying he’s never spoken to his son about his business dealings.

BUCK: That is what you call a lie. Yes.

CLAY: Caught red-handed, Buck, and people say, “Well, why does this matter?” I don’t think very many of our listeners do, but some left wingers would. Well, Joe Biden profited also off of these relationships, and it needs to be discussed.

Clay Calls Out Joe’s Voicemail to Hunter

    6 Jul 2022

The Democrat media had just started to report a bit on Hunter’s laptop to cover themselves from charges of covering up for Joe Biden, but then came the voicemail from “the Big Guy” exposing his lie about never talking to his son about his influence-peddling business with Communist China.

Why #BuckSexton Was Trending All Weekend

    5 Jul 2022

CLAY: Buck Sexton was trending all weekend long after he took a shot at the city of Asheville! I couldn’t believe it. I was sitting on the beach. I looked down at the trending topics, and Buck is at war with the good people of Asheville, North Carolina.

BUCK: Whoa, whoa, whoa. Hold on. I’m throwing a flag here, Mr. Clay.

    CLAY: (laughing)

BUCK: I’m throwing a flag. Asheville is a place with great food, beautiful, very nice people. I arrived and I just was a little bit taken aback — and I don’t know. I want to get back to the bigger news stories, although we should talk about this a little bit. Clay, in downtown Asheville, there are not only masks on most of the employees in stores and businesses you come across —

CLAY: Still. Which is shocking to you, and given it’s North Carolina, even worse than New York City.

BUCK: It was worse than New York City! N95 masks. There were “masks required” signs on some stores. Most of the stores that I saw, ’cause I wanted to go see… It’s Asheville; they’re selling wind chimes and patchouli and whatever. I was going to check out things. I’m like, “What’s that smell? Oh, I found out,” and you walk in these stores, and they’ve got N95 masks on, and all these people walking around, and I just said, “There’s a lot of masks.”

I didn’t make fun of anybody. I just said, “There’s a lot of masks here.” Could I just come back to this later ’cause I need to dunk on some libs? There are some libs, some blue checks need to get dunked on. This is now insane. They have a mental health issue, wearing an N95 as some kind of virtue signaling lunacy and making employees do it. We’ll come back to that, though. What do you say?

    CLAY: Yes.

BUCK: ‘Cause I want to tee off on some individuals in particular who really deserve it. But, yeah, no, I had a lovely time in Asheville. Carrie and I had a great time. Fun town, good food, lots of drink.

CLAY: Trending the whole weekend long after you got there.

BUCK: Nationally trending Asheville. I don’t know. When was the last time Asheville nationally trended on Twitter? I don’t know. It’s probably been a while.

    BREAK TRANSCRIPT

BUCK: I didn’t realize local newspapers in North Carolina were picking this one up. So, let me just set the scene for everybody, right? Let me just tell the folks what’s going on and why all of a sudden this was trending nationally. I know a lot of you aren’t on Twitter, but when something trends nationally on Twitter, it gets a lot of media attention. There were writers for the New York Times weighing in on this one, there were random influencers, craft beer places. By the way, I’ve been told by a longtime listener, Clay, it’s called a “gauge” in your ear. I just learned this. I did not know what that was.

CLAY: You’re right. They are very common now with the blue hair community.

    BUCK: But —

CLAY: Not old people, by the way, blue hair young people.

BUCK: No. People to dye their hair electric blue, not people that are older. WWNC AM is our Asheville affiliate, by the way, so if you’re listening and you want to know why there was all this attention over the weekend, let me just tell you, “This is what happened,” so you’ll all know. Clay sent me — this has been picked up by different newspapers there. First of all —

CLAY: You’re in every newspaper in North Carolina right now.

BUCK: Yeah, apparently every newspaper in North Carolina. “National Radio Host Sneers at People in Asheville and it Set off a War on Twitter,” was the Charlotte Observer here. I didn’t sneer at the people of Asheville. That’s just a lie. That’s not even true.

    CLAY: Yes.

BUCK: I obviously chose to go there on vacation. I’m looking forward to enjoying my time there. All I wrote that started this huge war, okay, on Twitter, online, was, “Higher percentage of mask wearers in Asheville, North Carolina, than back in Manhattan. What is going on here?” That is it. I didn’t say every here….

CLAY: What time did you send that? Saturday morning?

BUCK: Saturday around lunchtime, maybe 11 a.m., noon. And it just completely took off, all these people freaked out. One fellow who sort of looks like Moby on steroids… I’m trying to find his name. He’s a fitness influencer who actually decided to tell me what his deadlift was.

    CLAY: (laughing)

BUCK: I’m gonna find this ’cause if you want a window into the left-wing mind, you’ve got to hear it. Wait. I’m gonna track this one because ’cause it’s really important. Where did it go, darn it?

CLAY: You track that down. I’ll explain from my perspective.

BUCK: No, wait, here! (laughing) I found it. Mr. Brad Stulberg. Again, like I said, if Moby were taking a lot of HGH he would look somewhat like this guy. Not that I’m saying this gentleman takes anything. I’m just saying he resembles Moby but much more jacked. “Hi, Buck. Welcome to Asheville. Covid rates are pretty high.” Really? “And for many people wearing a mask isn’t all that hard. I deadlift 450 pounds, parent a rowdy young kid, train, write books, and so on. I don’t want to get sick, and wearing a mask is the easiest thing to do.”

He got 4,000 likes from the Twitter community on that one. “N95 masks are pretty effective.” No, actually. Also, not true. “So just pop one on when I go inside stores and the like. I’ve had no issue with the practice. So my guess is that is what you are seeing,” and then he went on to say a bunch of other sort of snarky things about me to his lib audience friend. Let me say, Mr. Stulberg, I would suggest you read more and lift less because even the New York Times, as we have had them on… We’ve had a New York Times writer on the show, David Zweig.

New York Magazine, rather, but the New York Times has written about this, too, so either one works. Mask mandates have done nothing. It’s not that they haven’t done a lot. They’ve actually completely failed to show any of case anywhere in the country. And as for why I care, when I walk into a place in the middle July and it’s 80 degrees outside and there are staff members — and it was all over downtown, and I’m from Manhattan. So I’m used to seeing mask maniacs, Clay.

Sorry. (chuckles) As you know I’m very fired up about this. And they have N95 masks on, there are children that I saw with N95 masks on, but I’m not even talking about that. That’s child abuse, though. There are people that work in these stores who have no choice. No one asked them. And there are “masks required” signs outside. Why is Bernie Sanders-voting, left-wing lunacy tied to N95 mask wearing if it’s about science? That is the question that I pose to these people.

CLAY: This is also funny to me on many different levels. Let me start here. Has anyone ever posted their deadlift ability and it made you trust their opinion on something other than deadlifting more? So I was like, “I’m Clay Travis. I bench press 225 and I believe that mask wearing is important,” would you be like, “Oh, I didn’t trust his opinion on the mask? But when he told me what benched, then suddenly I’m like, ‘This dude knows what he’s talking about.’”

I would just ask you, has your deadlift ever been connected in any way to a position where you would trust someone more? Like, “I deadlift 450, and I think that we should build the wall or not build the wall,” would you be like, “Well, I didn’t trust this guy’s opinion on the wall, but then he told me what he dead lifted, and now I’m all-in.” That, to me, is funny. Regardless of who you are or what your political opinion is, if you put your deadlift in your political opinion, anyone who trusts you more say total imbecile.

BUCK: I’m gonna tell Mr. Stulberg, when he can dead left 550, then I’ll to want hear his science take, then I want to hear his science take. So I dealt with — and this is what drove me so insane — by the way. I was honestly surprised. All these people are like, “Why do you go somewhere to start a fight?” I’m in New York City, man. I see the mask stuff all the time. It was jarring how many and it was all in the stores, people in the streets a little bit too, and it wasn’t just that they were the employees. There were masks — and I took photos, ’cause they always say you’re lying. I actually have photo evidence of this. “Masks required” for stores still. And this is a mental health, okay? That’s —

    CLAY: It is.

BUCK: I care because these people need to stop being crazy, and the reason they need to stop being crazy is that this isn’t about safety. This is the same mentality, we all had to mask up on planes. Remember when they got rid of the plane mask mandate? Does anyone care anymore? No. Because it’s for people that are emotionally unwell, okay? They made us do this, and they want — and this is what I’m telling everybody across the country. Biden is still president, folks, even for two years. They want to do this again. They have not given up.

They do not admit that they are wrong. They are abusing children by making them wear masks. They are mandating the vaccine for small kids in New York City. This fight is not over, and so I don’t like this argument of, “Oh, why do you care so much?” ‘Cause they want to make all of us do it just when they can get the political power to do it. And then, beyond that, I actually am a nice guy, Clay. I want to free their faces! I want them to breathe as human beings have breathed for all of human history. I want them to enjoy the nice patchouli-smelling air in downtown Asheville. I don’t want them to have to feel this way anymore. I’m actually on their side. They just don’t know it.

CLAY: What I also thought was funny in addition to your dead lifter, somebody at a comic bookstore came after me because I just pointed out, I didn’t even know this was trending yet. I was on the beach with my kids, like, I’m having a great time. And I saw your tweet. I’m checking to see what the news was, and I saw your tweet. And I just responded, “Asheville is like a great city,” basically, but they’ve also gotten taken over by the woke. They voted for reparations as well.

And the Asheville comic bookstore came after me (laughing), and the comic bookstore, which was perfect, had the Ukraine flag in it, and, you know, as if you’re, like, going around shopping, you’re like, “I don’t know where I’m gonna get the newest Marvel comic book…” “Have you ever not been awful? Please don’t come here. We don’t want you.” That was from Asheville Comics which had the Ukraine flag in it. But, Buck, I’ve been in this —

BUCK: That you know Kathy Griffin weighed in on this one? I didn’t even see this ’til now. This has gone thermonuclear viral, Clay.

CLAY: Well, what I you is, you’re on vacation. It’s July 4th. You dash off what you think is a relatively innocuous tweet — I was gonna say — sharing your impressions. You’re there with your girlfriend and her family. This reminds me of my situation once before when I was like to my wife, “I only have to do one more interview. It’s Friday, I’m gonna do this CNN hit, and then we’re gonna take the kids out for pizza and we’re just gonna chill for the weekend, it’s been a long week, been working hard,” and I said I believe in the First Amendment and boobs, and it just blew up for multidays.

And my wife is like, “Yeah, I guess we’re not going out for pizza now,” and I’m like, “Yeah.” I’m picturing you just dashing off what you think is an innocuous tweet. We got the biggest radio audience in the country — you’re on Fox News all the time, too — sharing all sorts of opinions, and suddenly, you’re fighting a battle with everybody in the state of North Carolina over masks, and you totally never anticipated it would blow up like it did. No earthly idea.

BUCK: I talk about so much more controversial stuff, and yet this went completely nuts over the weekend, but I see so many of the arguments that are being made, and it’s fascinating. One of my favorites… These people are very — and, by the way, I’m not saying individuals. I’m talking about blue checks, people that are verified, have an audience and platform themselves or have a platform as part of their living. They’re so dumb.

    CLAY: Yes.

BUCK: So many of them are so deeply stupid, and people listen to them. And, I mean, for example, they keep saying I made some anti-freedom comment. I’m not the one that wants people wrestled on planes and arrested in front of their family members for not masking up or whatever. I’m just saying, “Hey, guys, stop being morons. Learn to read. They don’t work, okay?” And for the people that say, “Oh, N95 is really effective,” for the millionth time, if you wear a sealed N95 mask for 100% of the time you could possibly be exposed to people who have covid, yes.

You will probably reduce your risk of covid. The moment that you decide, “Oh, it’s bar night and I’m not gonna wear the mask,” you’re getting covid just like the rest of us, all right? So this… It’s all virtue signaling. I didn’t… New York Times writers weighing in, Kathy Griffin. They’re piling on the Buckster. My girlfriend’s family lives in Asheville, okay? I’m there because I’m trying to make friends with the town of Asheville. I don’t hate Asheville at all. I thought it was lovely.

CLAY: You’re just trending everywhere on vacation. It is a perfect example of you never know when something is going to hit. This reminds me of when you blew up over the Simone Biles comments early in our tenure. You’re wherever because of your opinion about Simone Biles.

BUCK: I made a joke about how milk should just mean cow milk and not be other milks — those should be called, like, juice of the almond or whatever — and I got dragging for four days on this. I’m like, “What is this? Sorry the free market’s given you so many options.” What is wrong with all you idiots? Anyway, Twitter of full of libs and morons so this is what you deal with, folks. But, anyway, Asheville food, very nice, lots of great options. I went to beautiful waterfalls, saw lots of folks having a good time.

CLAY: You go to the Biltmore?

    BUCK: Would I what?

CLAY: Did you go to the Biltmore?

BUCK: Oh, yeah, of course, went to the Biltmore Estates, pretty fancy.

    CLAY: Pretty cool.

BUCK: Yeah, very nice. Highly recommend. I just want everyone to free their faces. That’s all. I’m just advocating for it.

CLAY: At least have that option.

BUCK: Yeah, at least have the option for a free face.
